Three die, ten injured due to asphyxiation

Jayankondam, Nov 29 (UNI) Three persons died and 10 others were hospitalised due to asphyxiation at Amankkamthondi village near here today.

Police said Samithurai (37) of the same village went to a unused old well to fetch water, but his plastic vessel slipped into the well. When he attempted to take the missing vessel, he fell into it due to asphyxiation. Two others Anbazhagan (23) and Panneerselvam (55) of the same village, realising the plight of Samudurai, rushed to rescue him, but they, too, fell into the well due to ausphyxiation.

On hearing the news, ten members of the village attempted to remove the deceased from the well, but they also fell down due to asphyxiation.

They were admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Thanjavur.

Police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and removed the bodies from the well.

Investigation was, underway, police added.
