Nagaland govt announces 7-day mourning
Kohima, Nov 29 (UNI) The Nagaland government has announced a seven-day mourning on account of the death of former prime minister Viswanath Pratap Singh with effect from November 27.
In a notification, Nagaland Chief Secretary Lalhuma said the national flag will be flown half-mast and there would be no entertainment during the period.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Governor K Sankaranarayanan has condoled the death of V P Singh and said that despite being from a well-to-do family, he was concerned for the poor and the down-trodden.
He was an architect of the reservation policy for the 'Other Backward Castes (OBC) and with his demise, the country had lost a politician, a nationalist and a true leader.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, in his condolence message, said he displayed unquestionable integrity and that with his death, the country had lost a true leader and a distinguished statesman.
