EC seeks explanation from Arvinder Singh Lovely
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has issued show cause notice to Delhi Education and Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, seeking his explanation to the complaints of alleged corrupt electoral practice of appealing voters by using his official letter pad.
The EC notice, which had annexed the complaint letter to the Minister has given him time to explain till 1700 hrs tomorrow, failing which it would presume that he has no explanation to be offer and was free to take 'appropriate action' without giving him any further opportunity.
The notice quoting the complaint received under 123 (3) of the Representation of People Act 1951 said the Minister had appealed the voters of 61 Gandhinagar assembly constituency by using his official letter pad with national emblem to vote for him, highlighting the achievements made by him during his tenure as a Minister in Delhi.
The model code of conduct came into operation in NCT of Delhi from October 14, 2008 under which, any violation would lead to the above provision.
