Scribes take out protest march against killing of their colleague

Samastipur, Nov 26 (UNI) A large number of scribes associated with various newspapers and electronic channels took out a protest march against the murder of their colleague and demanding immediate arrest of the criminals.

Convener of the district unit of Bihar Working Journalists' Union Krishna Kumar said protest march traversed main roads of the town and later a memorandum was submitted to District Magistrate with a demand for immediate arrest of the assailants, involved in the killing of senior scribe Vikash Ranjan of a vernacular daily 'Hindustan'.

The journalists' union also demanded from the state government to pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved family.

Almost all political leaders, including local MLA Ram Lakhan Mahto and district BJP president Ramashrya Sahni, condemned the killing of the journalist and said the incident had exposed the ''hollow'' claims of the Nitish Kumar government on improvement in law and order in the state.

Meanwhile, on the directive of the Chief Minister, Deputy Inspector General(DIG) of Darbhanga Range Binay Kumar arrived here for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

He said the case would be investigated from all possible angles and culprits arrested soon.
