PSEs to hire over 5,000 people in FY09: Oil Sec

New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) Amid current slowdown forcing companies to cut jobs across the globe, the country's public sector enterprises (PSEs) under the Petroleum Ministry are swimming against the tide as they plan to employ over 5,000 people during this financial year.

''The PSEs under the Petroleum Ministry plan to hire 5,037 people during the current fiscal,'' Petroleum Secretary R S Pandey said at the Economic Editors' Conference here.

He said the PSEs have already employed about 3,300 people.

Last fiscal, 2,600 people were employed, he added.
