PM asks Assam, Manipur to ensure security of journalists
New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Expressing concern over the recent killings of journalists in Assam and Manipur, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today asked both the states to ensure security and safety of newspersons.
Dr Singh advised Chief Ministers of both the states to take immediate steps for prompt and fair investigations into the killings, a relaese issued here said.
The Prime Minister also asked them to ensure the security and safety of all journalists and newspersons in their states, it added.
Some unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot journalist Jagajit Saikia in Kokrajhar town of Assam and earlier in the week assailants gunned down sub editor Konsam Rishikanta in Imphal, Manipur.
