GJM activists attack forest guard, torch beat office
Siliguri, Nov 25 (UNI) A Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader, Hari Prasad Nirola (52), was seriously injured after a pachyderm attacked him at Naxalbari area under Kurseong forest subdivision in Darjeeling district last night.
Police here today said the GJM leader was immediately rushed to a nursing home at Siliguri where his condition was stated to be serious.
Enraged with the incident, GJM activists torched a beat office situated at Kurseong forest subdivison. They also attacked and injured Lachu Newara, a forest guard, DFO, Kurseong Forest Division, Y T Aden said.
Later, three fire tenders brought the blaze under control.
The injured guard has been admitted to the Naxalbari hospital.
Huge contingent of police forces has been deployed even as tension prevails in the area, police said, adding an FIR has been lodged in Naxalbari police station by the forest officials against one person.
