Chandigarh, Nov 25 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (retd.) S F Rodrigues today constituted a core group of senior officers to provide expert services in urban transport and infrastructure development.
The core group will chalk out a strategy with Delhi Integrated Multi- Modal Transit System (DIMTS), a corporate body of professionals of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd. for the purpose.
The crore group includes the Home Secretary, the Finance Secretary, the Chairman of Chandigarh Housing Board, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation and the Chief Engineer of the Chandigarh Administration.
After seeing the presentation by DIMTS, headed by Mr Rakesh Mehta, Chief Secretary, GNCTD, and other senior officers on its Board of Directors, General Rodrigues said that active collaboration with this government corporate body will be helpful in speeding up the process of growth and development.
He asked the officers to implement various decisions of the administration and revitalize the service delivery system by removing bureaucratic hurdles.
He noted with concern that unnecessary procedural bottlenecks are created by the officials that cause inconvenience to the common people. The bureaucracy must not obstruct the process of development but act as a facilitator, he added.
He said that special steps had been taken to improve the transport system and traffic management by initiating plans for Mass Rapid Transport and construction of underway bridges, multi-level parkings and flyovers at required places.
General Rodrigues suggested that the DIMTS could collaborate in all projects for speeding up the process of development.
