Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko left here for London this evening to take part in a meeting on the Lankan Tamils issue being organised by UK MPs.

In a brief chat with newspersons at the airport before his departure to London, Mr Vaiko alleged that some forces here, including the Sri Lankan High Commission, tried to scuttle his trip to London as they did not want him to take part in the meeting.

''I am going to London on the invitation of the British MPs who are organising this seminar'', he added.

But some of my well wishers enabled me to get the visa, he said, adding that a similar 'conspiracy' was plotted against him when he was invited by the government of Norway to take part in a seminar on the Lankan Tamils issue.

He said he had not disclosed this to newspersons earlier in the morning when he arrived here from Madurai fearing that these forces would try to sabotage his trip.

''I was able to participate in that seminar thanks to the efforts made by the Ambassador of Norway who got me the visa then'', Mr Vaiko recalled.

Mr Vaiko said he would return to Chennai on November 30.
