Tata Steel MD's sex changed, courtesy election office

Jamshedpur, Nov 24 (UNI) A glaring example of utter recklessness of election officials in the preparation of important documents like electoral roll has come to light in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand where Tata Steel Managing Director B Muthuraman has been described as a lady while his wife is registered as a man in the recently prepared photo electoral roll.

In the electoral roll's section 193 the Tata steel MD's photo is pasted at the four-hundred-and sixty second place. His details are described as Vimla Devi, Sex as Female. In the same roll, Mr Muthuraman's better half Mrs Sumati Muthuraman's snap can be seen with the description - Name as Dudhnath Sah, Sex as Male.

Admitting the fault, deputy district election officer Mr Vipin Bihari told UNI today that it was caused because of the mistake of those who prepared the photo Identity cards of various voters with same serial number.

As Mrs Vimala Devi and Mr Muthuraman have the same photo identity card number, the mistake was repeated in the rolls as well.

''The process of putting photo in electoral roll was started in 2004 but the identity cards were prepared much earlier. The same mistake got carried over in the rolls. However, we are rectifying our mistake,'' he added.
