2 Dead, several firemen injured as portion of old bldg collapses

New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Two people died after a storey of an old building in Central Delhi's Farshkahna area collapsed this afternoon, even as several men of the Fire Brigade were injured during rescue operations.

Both -- Qamaruddin (20) and Matajul Ansari (22) --, working as labourers inside the building, were buried alive when the top floor of the old building collapsed at about 1330 hrs, said the police adding that the building was being used as a storehouse for spare parts of cars, especially bearings.

In all 14 people were working at the time of the incident. Others managed to escape.

The collapse occurred allegedly due to overload of spare parts on the old structure.

Later some Fire Brigade personnel were also injured during rescue operations as another portion of the building collapsed.

However, no serious injuries were sustained by any of the Fire service men, it added.
