Woman passenger held for possessing gold rod

Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) A woman air passenger was arrested in Chennai Airport last night for possessing a gold rod worth Rs 15,40,000.

Talking to newspersons here today, customs officials said the 47-year-old woman, Mangala Iswari arrived at the airport in a Colombo flight, which landed at 2040 hrs, with two suitcases.

During the routine checking, the gold rod weighing 1.60 kg was found in one of the suitcases.

Ms Iswari was remanded in judicial custody.

Investigation was underway, officials added.
