Two govt officials killed, five ultras gunned down in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 22 (UNI) Altogether two officials of the state Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) were shot dead by armed miscreants at Leimakhong in Manipur last night.

Police said the bodies of the deceased -- Yumlembam Inaobi and Maibam Chaoba, were recovered in a Maruti car at the Leimakhong Mapal Crematorium ground in Imphal East, adding the victims were shot on their heads.

The killings were condemned by IFCD Minister N Biren, who had assured to initiate necessary actions to find the culprits.

Meanwhile, five ultras were killed by a combined force of police and troops during two separate incidents late last night.

Police informed that Imphal West police personnel, along with the troops of Assam Rifles, gunned down two militants at Mayang in Imphal West yesterday.

In another incident, three rebels were shot dead during a joint operation led by the Imphal East police and troops of Assam Rifles at Nongbren under Lamlai in Imphal East last night.

The militants had not been identified yet, police said adding their bodies were kept for identification and post-mortem at the morgue of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
