Former HC Judge submits report to TN Govt on reservation
Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) Retired High Court Judge M S Janardhanam today submitted his report to the Tamil Nadu Government on providing separate reservation for Arunthathiyars.
Mr Janardhanam met Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the State Secretariat and submitted the report.
Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Secretary V Kanagaraj was present on the occasion, an official release said.
Arunthathiyars, a sub-caste of the Scheduled Castes (SCs), had last year demanded six per cent reservation, based on their population from the 18 per cent quota for the SCs.
The said there were about 60 lakh Arunthathiyaars in Tamil Nadu and the State Government should take this into consideration and accord exclusive reservation on the lines of those given in Andhra Pradesh.
Following this, the State Government held a consultative committee meeting and then appointed Mr Janardhanam as the one-man commission to go into the issue and suggest recommendations on the feasibility of providing reservation for Arunthathiyars.
After conducting detailed study and analysis, Mr Janardhanam submitted the report to the Government.
