Counterfeit currencies seized in Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 22 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, police seized counterfeit currencies of Rs three lakh, believed to have been circulated from Bangladesh, and arrested three persons in this regard from different areas of the city and Howrah today.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Javed Shamim said Mamun Mian, a resident of Malda, was first arrested by a Special Task Force team following a tip-off and the fake currencies were found in his possession.

Following his interrogation, Biplab Das, another member of the racket, was arrested from Central Kolkata, while Sanjay Dubey was rounded up from Howrah Maidan area.

Mr Shamim said the currencies were believed to have been circulated from Bangladesh.

A detailed investigation into the case was on.
