Malegaon blast case transferred to designated Sewri MCOCA court
Nashik, Nov 21 (UNI) The District and Sessions court here today transferred the September 29 Malegaon blast case to a designated Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Sewri, Mumbai.
The ATS had filed an application demanding the transfer of the case to MCOCA court at Mumbai in the court of Justice H K Ganatra, fourth joint civil judge, senior division, after it applied section three of the MCOCA on ten accused in the case.
The defence lawyers took strong objection to the transfer application as the district has two designated MCOCA courts.
They argued that the ATS wanted to shift the case to Mumbai for their own convenience. However, the court passed the order to shift the case.
Meanwhile, accused no 11 of the case, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, was also produced before Justice Ganatra. The ATS had also sought the transfer of his trial to designated Sewri MCOCA court, which the court allowed.
At the same time, Advocate Umesh Walzade, who is the defence lawyer for key accused of the blast case, Pragya Singh Thakur, said they will approach the High Court against the application of MCOCA on his client.
