India will sustain 8 per cent growth: PM
New Delhi, Nov 21: Inaugurating the Hindustan Leadership Summit at Hotel Taj Palace on Friday, Nov 21 in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh said that India can and will sustain a growth rate of 8 per cent despite the adverse impact of the global financial crisis.
PM exuded with confidence that India had the "resources and the wisdom to grapple and deal" with the crisis. “Global economy is going through choppy waters; we can and we will surely survive," he said. Criticising Indian politicians, Manmohan Singh said that competitive politics must not be allowed to divide society on religious and caste lines.
While replying to the questions, after delivering the inaugural address at the Summit PM said that government had anticipated the global turmoil and had taken measures in the budget. He said, " global economy was passing through a 'deep crisis'. We cannot pretend that we are not affected by it".
Adding that the global problems need global solutions, he said there was a need for a 'global safety net.'
