Doctors of Sir Sunder Lal hospital on strike, work hit

Varanasi, Nov 20 (UNI) The medical services in Sir Sunder Lal hospital of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) remained paralysed today, following an indefinite strike by the junior doctors.

The junior doctors of the hospital last night called the indefinite strike to protest the violence and misbehaviour of the varisty students.

A section of the BHU students had last evening gone on a rampage and vandalised chairs, tables and other property of the hospital.

The mob had allegedly misbehaved with the doctors and other staff members in agitation against the death of one student due to alleged negligence on part of the medicos.

To quell the mob, the police and varisty's security guards had lathicharged upon the students and chased them away after which the the students had clashed with the shopkeepers.

Police have rounded-up about two dozen students and lodged a named FIR against 19 students.

The vice-president of Resident Doctors Association Dr Avinash said as it was not possible to work in such conditions, we have called the strike, which would continue till the guilty were punished and adequate security provided to the medical practioners.

Sir Sunder Lal hospital is one of the biggest hospital of eastern UP and equipped with all the latest facilities. A large number of patients from eastern UP, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh come here for treatment.
