Sun Microsystems launches new datacenter solution
New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) In a move aimed at meeting the growing IT needs of the country , Sun Microsystems together with Emerson launched a new Sun Modular Datacenter (Sun MD) D20.
''Sun Modular Datacenter radically changes the way in which datacenter capacity is deployed. In emerging markets there are many companies who are experiencing explosive IT growth, but are unable to meet demand due to infrastructure limitations,'' Sun Microsystems, Director, Sales Development, APAC and Emerging Regions Peter Chadford said while launching the new device in the capital.
With the capacity of supporting upto 50 teraflops of computer performance or three peta bytes of disk capacity in a heterogeneous environment, the Sun MD is built on a standard 20-foot (6.1-meters) shipping container and consumes one-tenth of the time that a typical brick and mortar datacenter takes to design, build and deploy, said he said.
Clubbed with Emerson's power&cooling solution, the datacenter also delivers over 40 percent lower cooling costs, independent of payload, as compared to a typical datacenter.
