Kalki to contest TN Assembly poll
Kozhikode, Nov 19 (UNI) Transgender activist and Tamil Nadu-based Sahodari Foundation chairperson 'Kalki' today said she would contest the next Assembly election from that state.
Addressing a press meet here, she said winning a seat in the election would provide her an appropriate platform to intensify her fight for the cause of the transgender community.
Describing the condition of transgenders as worse in the state, she said there were two options -- begging and prostitution -- before them to eke out a living.
Those opted the first also forced into prostitution gradually after being sexually harrassed by people, including policemen, at various occasions, she alleged.
She said she had information that the condition of the community was even worse in Kerala forcing them to migrate to Tamil Nadu, Pune and Delhi due to continued harrassment from the society, including close relatives.
