Governor for proper exposure to 'Parsuram Kund'

Itanagar, Nov 19 (UNI) Parsuram Kund, the holy pilgrimage site in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh could be developed into a religious tourism site.

The governor was on a two-day tour to Lohit district recently and said, with proper publicity the state can facilitate visit to the pilgrims throughout the year, official sources here today said. Paying obeisance at the Kund, the governor stressed for the development of amenities at the site saying lakhs of pilgrims would visit the kund if proper arrangements could be made for them.

While inspecting the development works near the Kund, he urged for the early completion of the projects including road, bridges and basic amenities.

The Governor also lauded the initiatives of the GREF for the mini hydel project, which provides necessary power requirement to the religious site.

He also asked the Force to construct accommodation for the priest, who is taking care of the Kund.

Parsuram Kund is associated with Parsuram's matricide. Legend goes that one day Renuka, mother of Parsuram went to Ganga for having bath and to bring water for her husband. However, delay in bringing water made Rishi Jamadagni angry and he asked his sons to kill her. None of his six sons except Parsuram could oblige who chopped off his mother's head and as a result of his crime the axe got struck to his hand. Parasuram in order to get rid of the crime of matricide went to Brahma Kund as advised by his father to wash off the sin. After taking the holy dip, axe was released from his hand and from that day the site came to known as Parsuram Kund.

People from all across the country and abroad including saints come to this kund on Makarsakranti which falls on January 14 every year.
