Fire engulfs cotton godown
Rajkot, Nov 19 (UNI) A large quantity of cotton was destroyed in a fire that gutted a godown of a cotton mill at Shapar-Veraval, about 15 kms from here today.
Chief Fire Officer R K Maheshwari told UNI over phone that the fire broke out at around 1130 hrs.
Nine fire fighters, including seven from Rajkot and one from Dhoraji and another from Gondal, were pressed into service to put out the flames, Mr Maheshwari said adding that the blaze was controlled after four hours.
However, no one was injured in the fire, the Chief Fire officer said.
The cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, he added.
1600 tonnes of cotton, worth about Rs two crore, lying in the godown, was reduced to ashes, fire officer K V Dhella said.
