Coimbatore Corporation office gets permanent address
Coimbatore, Nov 19: The Coimbatore Corporation's South Zone office gets a permanent office, next to its temporary location at the Travellers' Bungalow. Located on Huzur Road, the 22,000 sq.ft. building has been constructed at Rs 2 crore. But, after a 10-year wait for a permanent place, its intended inauguration during Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's visit on Nov 16 did not take place because of a mix up. The South Zone office functioned from the Corporation's main office at Town Hall for some time, when the other three zones had their own buildings in their respective areas. It then moved into the Travellers' Bungalow on Huzur Road after a proposal to construct its office opposite Koniamman Temple was shelved.
Sources in the Corporation say that after concerted efforts to put up a spacious office, the inauguration attempt on Sunday soured up what should have been an event memorable for the right reasons.
