AICU demands CBI probe into Kandhmal incidents

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 19 (UNI) The All India Catholic Union(AICU) has sought an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the attacks on Christians and Churches in Orissa, Union's National President Remy Y Denis said.

Christians were still being "tortured" in Kandhamal district and demanded that the Central forces be deployed in the violence-hit areas in that State,he told newspersons here yesterday.

He said the AICU had sent memoranda to the President, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister, a couple of months back.

Claiming that Christian non-governmental organisations were not allowed to visit the affected places, he demanded that the houses of Christians and the churches demolished during the violence be rebuilt.
