Traders stage protest over high taxes in UP
Lucknow, Nov 18 (UNI) Calling the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government a 'trouble-maker,' traders today carried out a boisterous protest demanding withdrawal of high rate taxes.
Samajwadi Vyapar Sabha working president Banwari Lal Kanchal, who spearheaded the agitation, here said traders are suffering the most during the present state regime.
''Corruption and Inspector Raj are spreading like wildfire, crushing law and order in the state,'' he alleged.
Inspite of assuring security to the community, the UP government was misusing the Dalit Act and harassing the traders, Mr Kanchal charged.
The protestor further said that while leving the Value Added Tax (VAT), Chief Minister Mayawati had committed a promise that all other taxes would come to an end after VAT, but no step has been taken in the direction till now.
Later, the mob handed over a memorandum to Governor T V Rajeswar for their demands.
