Railway freight revenue up in April-October
New Delhi, Nov 18 (UNI) The Railways have generated Rs 29564.92 crore of revenue earnings from freight traffic during April-October 2008 as compared to Rs 25424.28 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 16.29 per cent. The Railways carried 467.97 million tonnes of freight traffic during April-October 2008 as compared to 436.42 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year.
Of the total earnings during the month of October 2008, Rs 1667.28 crore came from transportation of 31.16 million tonnes of coal, followed by Rs 478.57 crore from transporting of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user.
Rs 365.90 crore (cement), Rs 285.33 crore(fertilisers), Rs 264.28 crore (petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs 230.17 crore (Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points), Rs 204.02 crore (foodgrains) Rs 71.35 crore(raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 206.39 crore (container service) and Rs 289.15 crore were come from other goods.
