NREGS wages to be paid via post offices
Aizawl, Nov 18 (UNI) A memorandum of understanding was signed here today between Rural Development department and Postal department for payment of the wages of workers under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) through post offices.
Rural Development Secretary Vanengmawia signed the MoU on behalf of the Mizoram government, while Director Mang Min Thang represented the postal department.
This was an implementation of the guidelines on NREGS, laid down by the Centre to facilitate prompt and transparent payment, officials said.
Under the guidelines, all the registered wage earners under NREGS would be required to open their account with the nearest post offices through which their wage will be paid by the Rural Development department.
Postal Director Mang Min Thang informed that the wage earners in Lawngtlai and Hnahthial had started opening accounts in the post offices and the same procedure would be introduced in other districts in the near future to ensure transparent payment through their accounts.
