Lankan Navy abducts 16 fishermen
Puducherry, Nov 18(UNI) As many as 16 fishermen of Karaikal region of the Union Territory, who ventured into the sea today, were abducted by the Sri Lankan Navy.
Reports reaching head-quarters here said, 16 fishermen of Karaikal and five others from Jagadambattinam, who ventured into the sea, were abducted.
The fishermen village panchayat in Karaikal submitted a memorandum to Karaikal District Collector Vasanthakumar, urging him to take steps for their release.
They threatened that they would observe 'World Fishermen Day' on November 21 as a black day, if the administration here failed to ensure the early release of fishermen.
