Wockhardt Hos doctors perform deformity correction thru VCM

Hyderabad, Nov 17 (UNI) Doctors at the Wockhardt Hospitals here performed a deformity correction through Vertebral Column Manipulation (VCM) technique on a 14-year-old girl suffering from Scoliosis.

Addressing a press conference here today, Orthopaedic Spine surgeon V Surya Prakash Rao, who perfomed the surgery along with a team of doctors, claimed that the advanced technique of scoliosis correction was performed for the first time in Andhra Pradesh.

He said the patient was detected with a deformity in spine called scoliosis, which with a passage of time, would have led to impaired pulmonary function or probable morbidity.

Many children suffer from scoliosis of the spine and their condition worsen due to delay in providing medical care, he said.

With the VCM technique, an advancing of the scoliosis could be prevented. ''This was the only technique where we could possibly acheive complete scoliosis correction along with rib hump correction without Thoracoplasty, which was a very morbid and painful procedure,'' he said.
