BJP demands bringing down prices of petrol, diesel

New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) Taking exception to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's stand that the Government will not consider the demand for reducing the prices of petrol and diesel until the oil companies recovered their losses, the BJP today demanded that the prices of both the fuels be brought down by Rs five a litre.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the petroleum prices hovered around 55 dollars a barrel and the current prices were fixed when these prices were soaring at 147 dollar a barrel. The prices should be brought down by atleast Rs five per litre, he said. Mr Javadekar said global meltdown and recession conditions were certain to have an impact on the Indian economy and employment. The problem demanded out of the box solution and the country can't remain complecent going by the Prime Minister's statement that the economy will register a 7.5 per cent growth, he said.
