Imphal, Nov 16: The Raphei Katamnao Long, the apex body of student organisations from Northern Tangkhul region, Ukhrul district, has threatened that it will launch a stir from Monday, Nov 17 for failure to repair roads in the area.

Approval for the construction of roads in the border areas of Ukhrul and Chingai sub-divisions between Nunghar-Khamasom-Poi-Chingai villages was given a few years ago.

Sanction for construction of the first phase of the road at an estimated cost of Rs 3.47 crore was given on July 14, 2005. Out of this Rs 1.75 crore were withdrawn so far. However, no satisfactory work has been done for which three engineers were suspended.

State Minister (Works) K Ranjit had also inspected the site several times and promised that the construction of the roads will be completed by February 2008. However, no resumption of the work has taken place till date.

Various representations have been made to the relevant authorities for action and immediate completion of the roads but all have fallen on deaf ears, the president of the RKL Tennonson Pheiray said.

As the government has failed to meet the demand it will launch a stir from Nov 17

Students of Senapati district had also launched an economic blockade demanding repair of National Highway 39 and after the Works Minister assured to take up work the blockade has been relaxed for six days starting yesterday.
