2 lecturers terminated, ban on movement of vehicles in Kargil
Srinagar, Nov 16 (UNI) The election authorities in Kargil have terminated services of two lecturers for failing to report for poll duty while movement of all vehicles has been banned in the district tomorrow when two assembly segments will go to polls in the first phase.
The authorities have also declared holiday in the entire district.
Official sources today said Deputy Commissioner, who is Chief Executive Officer of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil Satesh Nehru, has terminated the two contractual lecturers for their unauthorised absence.
The lecturers Shabir Hussain Rangrez, Higher Secondary School, Shargole and Ghulam Jeelani, Higher Secondary School, Chiktan were deployed for poll duty as Presiding Officers who failed to report for duty.
They said on enquiry, it was found that they had unauthorisedly left the station.
They said in connection with polling in two assembly segments of Kargil and Zanaskar tomorrow, the authorities have declared holiday in Kargil district under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 to facilitate the public to exercise their right to vote.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Kargil has imposed complete ban on the movement of vehicles in Kargil district from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs tomorrow.
However, the ban would not be applicable to vehicles on government duty with essential service and duly authorised vehicles of contesting candidates.
The ban is being imposed to thwart any trouble on the polling day.
