NIPER to hold international conference on natural drugs

Mohali, Nov 15 (UNI) National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is organising a five-day international conference on new development in drug discovery from natural products and traditional medicines (DDNPTM-2008) from tomorrow here.

The conference aims to provide scientists and executives from academia and pharmaceutical companies with the detailed information on drug discovery and development from natural products and traditional medicines, NIPER Director P Rama Rao told mediapersons here today.

The conference, to be inaugurated by Padmabhushan Sukh Dev, a well known natural products chemist, will have a comprehensive coverage of 10 different scientific aspects of natural product-based drug discovery, Mr Rao said.

Around 45 well-known scientists and speakers of international repute from abroad as well as India have been invited for the event, said K K Bhutani, Head, Department of Natural Products, NIPER. More than 300 delegates from different parts of the world are expected to take part in the five-day event, he added.
