Tiruchirapalli, Nov 15 (UNI) The First Additional District and Sessions Judge V Ramamurthy convicted and sentenced five people to undergo life imprisonment for murdering one Anbazhagan at Woraiyur in the city in 2006.

Pronouncing the verdict on November 13, the Judge imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each, besides directing all the five accused 'Boopathy, Malayala Suresh, Mohan, Balasubramaniyan and Sadikh Khan' to pay Rs 10,000 each to the wife of the deceased as a compensation.

Boopathy is the younger brother of Anbazhagan, who worked as a watchman in Vekkaliamman temple at Woraiyur. There was a property dispute between the brothers.

Anbazhagan was murdered by an armed group led by Boopathy while the former was proceeding to the temple along with his family members.

All the eight witnesses in the case turned hostile after being threatened by Boopathy.

Despite the witnesses turning hostile, the Judge found the available materials, including the First Information Report, Inquest Report and the Post Mortem Report produced by the prosecution sufficient to impose the sentence on the accused.
