Ice Industries begin indefinite strike over power failure
Ramanathapuram, Nov 15 (UNI) Fishing operations in this district of Tamil Nadu were affected as Ice Bars Manufacturing Industries began an indefinite strike today in protest against power failure.
Official sources said here about 34 Ice Bar Manufacturing Industries in the district downed their shutters, since this morning over power crisis, forcing the fishermen to keep off from the sea.
About 2,000 mechanised fishing boats and 4,000 country boats in the district could not venture into the sea for fishing.
The marine food export would hit severely, besides the livelihood of about 20,000 workers and their families, who were depending on the fishing industry. The strike would also result in huge loss of foreign exchange reserves to the Government and the economy of the district, where fishing is the only major industry.
The Industry owners said the strike would be continued, unless the State Government ensures uninterrupted power supply.
