Tightened mobile subscriber verification: KSU
Shillong, Nov 14 (UNI) In the aftermath of the Assam blasts the Khasi Student's Union (KSU) has urged cell phone service providers to tighten subscriber verification procedures in Meghalaya.
Mobile service providers must take extra precautionary steps before granting mobile connections to migrant workers to safeguard the identity and security of the state, the KSU statement said today.
The statement said the Union has reliably learnt that the migrant workers used the labour license to avail mobile connections. ''These labour licenses are issued randomly without verifying genuine documents by the District Council,'' the statement added.
In fact, mobile operators here have been issuing active connections on the basis of documentary proof furnished by an applicant.
