Snowfall hampers electioneering in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 14 (UNI) Electioneering for seven phase Assembly elections in the Kashmir Valley has been badly hit by heavy snowfall, forcing contesting candidates to postpone scheduled meetings today.

The authorities have mobilised all resources to hold elections in the Valley despite snowfall.

Electioneering which comes to an end tomorrow evening in three assembly segments in Bandipora district, four in Ladakh region and three in Poonch district was badly hit by the snowfall.

Polling in these constituencies will be held on Monday November 17.

The political parties and other contesting candidates were now holding room meetings to woo voters in their favour as they have to cancel there scheduled meetings in Gurez, Sonawari and Bandipora constituencies.

Officials have identified five places in Gurez where helicopters could land with poll staff and other machinery. Gurez, experienced one to two feet of snowfall since last evening.

Similarly, the authorities have decided to operate helicopter service in far flung and cut off areas of Bandipora, Kargil, Leh, Noobra and Zanskar constituencies for taking poll staff and material there.
