SC asks NCW to report on condition of widows in Brindavan
New Delhi, Nov 14 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the National Commission for Women(NCW) to submit its report within three months regarding the condition of widows and orphan women staying in 'ashrams' in Brindavan.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam issued the direction after hearing the counsel for the petitioner who had contended that these poor women have been living in sub-human conditions for many years with no one to look after them.
The counsel also alleged that the condition of these women is pitiable, both economic as well as physical.
According to the petitioner, these unfortunate and hapless women are forced to live in a living hell and are being subjected to all forms of exploitation and the government must take immediate steps to look after these women who have been deserted by their family members and have no where to go.
