Flute player Pandit Rao to get Adiyta Vikram Birla Kala Award
Mumbai Nov 14 (UNI) Noted flute player Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao will be presented the Adiyta Vikram Birla Kala Shikar Award at a function here on November 16 by Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir.
Pandit Rao is the 13th recipient of this prestigious annual award, instituted in 1996 by Sangit Kala Kendra of Aditya Birla Group to perpetuate the memory of its founder President Aditya Vikram Birla, a spokesperson of the Group announced here today.
The announcement coincided with the birth anniversary of late Aditya Vikram Birla.
The Kala Shikar award, comprising a cash award of Rs 2 lakh, a memento and a scroll of honour, is conferred on a distinguished artist for his or her lifetime achievement in the chosen field of the performing and visual arts.
The recipients of the award include among others Mrinalini Sarabhai(2007--Classical Dance), Pandit Bhimsen Joshi(2000-Classical Vocal) and Lata Mangeshkar (1996-Vocal Music).
The Governor will also present Aditya Vikram Birla Kala Kiran Awards to two promising music artists, Rakesh Chaurasia and Purbayan Chatterjee. The annual award comprises a cash award of Rs 50,000, a memento and a citation.
