Sikh community in Kerala celebrates 'Gur Purab'

Kochi, Nov 13 (UNI) The tiny Sikh community in Kerala today cleberated the 540th birthday of the founder of Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Dev, at the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha here, the only Sikh shrine in the state.

The programme started in the morning with the reciting of religious hymns and 'gurbani kirtan' by children, followed by the 'raghis' (religious singers).

Thereafter 'ardas' and 'samapti' were peformed and finally all the members assembled at the free community kitchen (Langar) and had food together, a spokesperson for the community, Mr Bunty Singh, said in a release here.

Guru Nanak was born in 1469 at Talwandi, south west of Lahore, now in Pakistan.
