AP: Sugarcane growers demand MSP
Vijayawada, Nov 12: The Federation of Sugarcane Growers' Association has sought a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 1,800 tonne for sugarcane in view of the steep increase in production cost.
Federation president Mallela Padmanabha Rao and secretary NSV Sarma, after a meeting with members here yesterday, told newspersons that the members demanded that the government announce the State Advisory Price (SAP) of Rs 300 a tonne.
The said nearly Rs 100 crore was due to cane farmers from factory owners as per the Bhargava formula.
The Federation, in another resolution demanded that the sugar factories take the initiative for modernisation of the industry, Mr Rao added.
