Mandhata Singh appointed Chairman Ceasefire Monitoring Group
New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) Lt. General (Retd.) Mandhata Singh has been appointed as the Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group/Ceasefire Supervisory Board to monitor the implementation of the agreed ground rules with NSCN (IM) and NSCN(K).
The appointment of Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Singh VSM, YSM, VSMP, will be for a period of one year from the date he assumes the charge of the post.
The monitoring of ceasefire is crucial so that these insurgent groups couldnot indulge in militant activities in Nagaland while holding peace talks with the government in the Northeast.
The next round of peace talks with NSCN(IM) is likely to take place in the second week of November in Hague, Netherlands after a gap of nearly a year.
A 20 points Charter of Demands was earlier submitted by NSCN(IM) which included separate representation at the UN and greater rights over natural resources, finance, defence and policing, besides unification of Naga-inhabited areas.
