K'taka govt announces bravery awards for Children

Bangalore, Nov 12 (UNI) Karnataka Government today announced bravery awards for Children who had exhibited exceptional courage and presence of mind in saving the life of others in dangerous circumstances.

Talking to newspersons here Karnataka Social Welfare minister M Narendra Swamy said four children, including 11-year-old Sachin A Watekar, who saved the life of a seven-year-old girl who was about fall into an open well, would be given the award.

The others who were named for the award for the year 2008-09 are Omkar Malagowda (11) from Belgaum district, Kumari Spoorthi S Patil (17) and Pranav Patil (17), both from, Dharwad.

The award, which includes cash of Rs 10,000 and a certificate, would be presented by Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur on November 14 at Bal Bhavan in Bangalore.

He said the awards for institutions and individuals, who had rendered commendable service in the field of child welfare, would be conferred on Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, H D Kote taluk Mysore and Child Rights Trust, Bangalore.

This award includes a cash prize of Rs one lakh.
