Guj police files charge sheet against 26 accused

Ahmedabad, Nov 12 (UNI) The Gujarat Crime Branch today filed a charge sheet in a Metropolitan court against all 26 accused, arrested for their alleged involvment in the July 26 serial bomb blast case.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashish Bhatia told UNI that the crime branch, the main investigating agency in serial blasts of July 26, 2008 in Ahmedabad city in which over 60 people were killed and 200 injured, had filed the chargesheet against the accused with a charge of 'unlawful and anti-national' activities.

Mr Bhatia said the charge sheet was filed in connection with the for cases of powerful explosions at Civil and L G Hospitals, which had resulted in maximum casualties, and carried by these accused as part of their Gujarat terror plot.

The charge sheets contain over 2,000 pages, containg every detail of evidence and findings made by the investigating agency, Mr Bhatia said.

The 26 charge sheeted accused also included blasts' mastermind Mufti Abdul Bashar Kasmi, who hailed from UP and was arrested by the Gujarat and UP police teams from Azamgadh.

Besides Mufti, SIMI's All India general secretary Safdar Nagori, arrested by the Gujarat Police and Special Task Force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh, had also been chargesheeted, Mr Bhatia said.

Nagori had conducted terrorists training camps for these SIMI activists in the forests of Kerala and Gujarat earlier this year, the JPC said.
