Four detained in gold idol theft case
Kendrapada, Nov 12 (UNI) The Rajnagar police have arrested four people, including two gold merchants, in connection with the stealing a gold idol from Bangalore.
According to Rajnagar police station Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police B B Sethy, a police team rushed to Bantapatna village yesterday on being informed that two people had been held captive by as many gold merchants.
The police team rescued Suresh Das and Arabinda Das from the clutchs of the gold merchants and brought them to the police station.
Mr Sethy said Suresh Das of Chandumara village under Balasore district and Arabinda Das of Mahulia village under Rajnagar police station were working as daily labourers at Bangalore and had stolen a gold idol of Ganesh from there and managed to flee to their village.
Later, they came to Mahulia village and converted the gold idol in to gold bricks and sold half of the gold to the erchants at Rs 2.70 lakh.
The two gold merchants, identified as Sudarshan Moharana and Bagua Moharana, then asked Suresh and Arabinda to come on November 8 and when they reported as per the date, the two gold merchants held them hostage and stated that the two had cheated them by giving bronze instead of gold.
All the four were taken to the Rajnagar police station for further investigation.
The Rajnagar Police had already intimated their counterparts in Bangalore on the detention of the two accused and the merchants in connection with the incident.
