Bharti Wal-Mart inks pact with Punjab govt

New Delhi, Nov 12: Bharti Wal-Mart Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture (JV) between Mittals-led telecom giant Bharti Enterprises and world's biggest retailer Wal-Mart Stores, on Wednesday, Nov 12 said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Punjab government to establish a special skills training centre in Amritsar.

The centre -- Bharti Wal-Mart Training Centre -- will initially offer short-term vocational certification courses to equip candidates to become floor and sales assistants or supervisors. The curriculum has been developed by Wal-Mart, along with Bharti Learning Systems, who will also manage and run the centre. ''This Public Private Partnership (PPP) aims at bridging the shortage of skilled workers for cash-and-carry and organised retail formats in the country,'' the company said in a statement. Each month, the centre is expected to train about 125 candidates, all of those will be awarded 100 per cent scholarships.
