VCK MLA resigns for Sri Lankan Tamils cause; first to do so

Chennai, Nov 11 (UNI) Dalit leader K Selvam of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) today became the first legislator in Tamil Nadu to resign for the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Mr Selvam, who came to the Assembly, submitted his resignation letter to Speaker R Avuidayappan in the latter's chamber after the House adjourned for the day.

Confirming this, the Speaker said the member had put in his papers and the resignation was under his consideration. He would go through the letter and announce his decision later, the Speaker told mediapersons.

Mr Selvam, who was one of the two VCK members in the Assembly and its Legislature Party leader, said he wanted to draw the attention of the Centre on the demand for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka, by resigning from his Assembly seat.
