Tributes paid to soldiers on the occasion of 'Armistice Day'

Puducherry, Nov 11 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to soldiers, who sacrificed their lives during the first world war on the occasion of the 90th ''Armistice Day'' here today.

Consul general of France in Puducherry Jollie Rayat and Health Secretary T M Balakrishnan (on behalf of the Lt Governor) placed wreaths at the war memorial on the Goubert Avenue here to mark the occasion.

French nationals observe the day on which the war ended as ''Onze Novembre'' day.

Retired French military officials and French nationals residing in the Union Territory paid homage to the statue of the ''Soldat Inconnu'' (Unknown soldier) here.
