Sukhbir authorised to select party candidates for LS polls
Chandigarh, Nov 11 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has been authorised to select party candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Mr Badal was given the authority to choose the candidates at a meeting of the Core Committee of Shiromani Akali Dal held here yesterday, according to Party Secretary and Spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema.
The Core Committee also authorised Mr Badal to select candidates for the election of President and office bearers of SGPC.
It was decided in the meeting that to formulate the manifesto of the party for the Parlaiment elections, the SAD President would constitute a committee of senior leaders of the party. This committee will interact with all sections of the society to take their views.
Dr Cheema said that the committee expressed grave concern over the prices of petroleum products inspite of fall of the rates of crude oil in the international market.
It was resolved that a deputation of senior leaders of the party would meet the Prime Minister and other Central Ministers and urge them to lower the prices of diesel, petrol and LPG.
This deputation of senior leaders of the party would also raise the issue of shortage of DAP in Punjab and would demand the fixation of minimum support price of wheat at Rs 1600 per quintal.
A serious view was taken of the fact that Government of Punjab had submitted its demand for the supply of five lakh metric tonnes of DAP well in time and funds for this purpose had also been deposited with the concerned authorities but inspite of this Punjab has been deprived of required quantity of DAP .
All this has happened inspite of the fact that the Chief Minister and senior officers of the Punjab Government had been continuously persuing this matter with the Central Government. The state farmer has suffered because of the indifferent attitude of the Central Government, Dr Cheema said.
Besides Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Patron of the SAD, Mr Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Mr Gurdev Singh Badal, Jathedar Avtar Singh, Mr Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Capt. Kanwaljit Singh, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Mr Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Jathedar Tota Singh, Mr Sewa Singh Sekhwan and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema.
