Kanakadurga temple 'hundi' nets Rs 69.59 lakh

Vijayawada, Nov 11 (UNI) The famed Kanakadurga temple atop Indrakeeladri hills here has netted an income of Rs 69.59 lakh through collection from 15 'hundis' (collection box) from October 14 to November ten.

A temple official told UNI here today that devotees also dropped 0.667 gms of gold and nearly five kg of silver in the hundis as offering to goddess Durga.

The temple authorities has made necessary arrangements for the devotees, who desired to undertake the 40-day 'Bhavani Deeksha' (austerity) at Bhavani mandapam which began yesterday.

Hundreds of devotees after taking a holy dip in river Krishna went to the temple to take deeksha from the priests.

The 20-day ''Artha Mandal Deeksha'' for bhavani devotees would commence from November 29 and conclude on December 18. Thereafter they would relinquish the deeksha for six days beginning from December 19 by offering 'Irumudi' to the presiding deity.
